131 Days AOMF Cancer Research Fundraiser
131 days. That's how long we had with Aaron from his cancer diagnosis to his leaving this world. 131 days of courageous, stoic, determination to fight, while remaining kind and uncomplaining. Those 131 days are what inspired The Aaron Opon Memorial Fund and what now have prompted us to organize a fundraiser specifically to raise money for cancer research.
Cholangiocarcinoma is rare, so there hasn't been a research focus on developing a targeted treatment. Had research into Cholangiocarcinoma been better funded, perhaps Aaron would have had more time. The hope was always that if he could just hang on long enough, maybe there would be a breakthrough. The Aaron Opon Memorial Cancer Research Fund has a goal of providing funding for research into rarer forms of cancer, particularly Cholangiocarcinoma.
This year we are starting an annual "131 Days" Fundraiser. From July 11 through November 20 we will be offering several fun (and meaningful) ways to support the Cancer Research Fund, starting with two Ice Cream Benefits in July.
We are hoping to have an event later in the summer or early fall to dedicate Aaron's memorial bench here in Homer Glen, as well as a T-shirt design contest and an online Coffee For a Cause fundraiser during the month of October.
Watch for announcements as each event approaches and help us support research into rare forms of cancer. You can also donate to the Cancer Research Fund any time by clicking the button below.

Oberweis in Mokena Benefit Day
Join us on July 29 at the Oberweis Dairy in Mokena, where, if you mention The Aaron Opon Memorial Fund, they will donate 20% of what you spend to the fund. All proceeds will be used to benefit Cancer Research.
When Aaron was first diagnosed in July of 2024, David immediately began searching for resources. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas had a doctor who specializes in the type of cancer Aaron had, cholangiocarcinoma, so we connected with him and visited him in Texas in August of 2024. At the time, Aaron was seeing an oncologist at Rush hospital in Chicago. In a lucky twist, that summer MD Anderson became affiliated with Rush Cancer Treatment Center, so Aaron’s treatment was coordinated between the two.
During this time David also reached out to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, who continues to support us to this day.
Donations from the 131 Days Cancer Reseach Fundraiser will be split between these two entities: Rush MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
Please note - we need 20 people to “RSVP” for this fundraiser by Sunday, July 26, by clicking the button below, or it will be automatically cancelled. RSVPing doesn’t obligate you or cost you anything, so please register even if you are unsure or unable to make it to the restaurant that day.
Rainbow Cone Ice Cream Day
Monday, July 20 will kick-off our Ice Cream Fundraising month with an AOMF day at Rainbow Cone in Orland Park. Come in any time that day and show the flyer, either printed or on your phone and the AOMF Cancer Research Fund will receive 20% of all totals.
